- In 1971, Amtrak (National Rail Passenger Transportation Corporation) was established to take over passenger transportation that had been carried out by railroads throughout the United States.
- At the beginning of operation, the company did not have its own rolling stock, and took over rolling stock of various famous railways and sequentially repainted them with Amtrak paint (Phase I paint), but for several years there were passenger cars with the old railway paint. It was nicknamed 'Rainbow Era' because it is mixed and colorful like a rainbow.
